Behind the Scenes

Two of the driving forces behind Youth Services System are Tammy Kruse, Director of Development, and Terra Crews, Special Events Coordinator. These two ladies get the job done like no one else and always have a great time doing it. Instead of boring you with what we think about them, we thought it'd be best to let them tell you themselves!

Terra Crews

What is your name, role at YSS and how long have you been here? Terra Crews, Special Events Coordinator, I started on September 4th.

Describe yourself in 7 words or less.

Encouraging, silly, anxious and kind.

What was your favorite toy as a child? My favorite toy as a child was a Tonka dump truck. My brother and I would

take turns sitting in the back and riding down our grandma's driveway.

If you were able to time travel, what time period would you go to and why?

I would travel to the 1950's. My Nanny was stunningly gorgeous and

fierce. She would have been in her early twenties in the fifties and I

would love to hang out with her and get to know her as a young adult.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

I would like to travel somewhere tropical and take my children. I want them to experience the breathtaking

views of clear water where they can see the fish swimming under the water.

My sister lived in the Cayman Islands and it was such a beautiful place. My husband and children would love it.

What is your biggest pet peeve?

I have to say for me to pick one pet peeve is difficult because I have

several, haha. I can't stand when folks are unkind. When someone

intentionally ruins someone's reputation or bashes someone to gain personal

reward, I cringe. I guess arrogance and greed would sum up all of my pet

peeves in two words. No one is more worthy than the next. We are all

human and deserve respect.

What makes you laugh the hardest?

I am a huge fan of people falling. Of course, I need to make sure they're

okay first, but I have a hard time holding in my laughter before asking.

My husband really makes me laugh the most. Honestly, he doesn't even try

to make me laugh when I'm laughing the hardest.

Who is the kindest person you know?

I am blessed to know so many kind people. I try to surround myself with

positive, loving people because I strive to be that. To name just one is

difficult. I admire Fred Rogers. His story and goals in life are

incredible. He was truly kind and made an impact every day.

What top three songs would be on your life soundtrack?

I'm a whirlwind of songs! I'm going with Garth Brooks, "I've Got Friends

in Low Places", Hill Song United, "Ocean", and Travis Tritt, "It's a Great

Day to be Alive"

If your life were a movie, what actor/actress would portray you?

Kristin Wiig! She's hilarious and petite.

Do you prefer a novel or a moive?

NOVEL! I prefer to visualize the characters and setting rather than them

be created for me. I love curling up with a book and getting trapped in

the story.

If you were able to read someone's mind, whose would you read and why?

If I could read minds, I would like to read children's minds. They're

curious, innocent and intelligent. My heart is so happy when I'm with

children. I love hearing their stories and thoughts on the simple joys of

life.

What is your favorite quote?

My favorite quote is by Fred Rogers: "We live in a world in which we need to share responsibility. It's easy to say, 'It's not my child, not my community, not my world, not my problem.' Then there are those who see the need and respond. I consider those people my heroes."

What is your name, role at YSS and how long have you been here? Tammy Kruse, Director of Development. I've been at YSS for roughly 10 years. My goal is to be the conduit between those who have and those who are in need.

Describe yourself in 7 words or less.

Resilient, trustworthy, reliable, kind, compassionate.

What was your favorite toy as a child?

Suzuki RM 80

If you were able to time travel, what time period would you travel to and why? 1700's - Johann Sebastian Bach wrote cello solo suite no. 1 - prelude.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

Bay of Fundy, Canada - known for extremely high tides and Hopewell rocks.

What is your biggest pet peeve?

Lies, they erode trust and collapse relationships. What makes you laugh the hardest?

My husband and my son. Who is the kindest person you know?

Sister Christine Riley What top 3 songs would be on your life soundtrack?

Waiting for the world to change by John Mayer, You’ve got a friend by Corde King/James Taylor, and At Last by Etta James. Do you prefer a novel or a movie?

A 600 page novel that takes two months to read often turns into a watered down 2 hour movie. If you could read minds, whose would you read and why?

I don’t want to read minds, I want to experience the words and learn from actions. What is your favorite quote?

"It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt." - Mark Twain
